Prepare over wintering areas for trees Move tender trees into an unheated green house or indoors. I find that this move often stimulates bugs so keep a careful watch and spray with a suitable systemic insecticide at the first sign of infestation. If you have the time it is worth looking at each tree while you move it. Looking for signs of disease, planning spring pruning and really keeping in touch with progress.Move the tropical trees indoors to an area in a bay window with plenty of light. I've created a temporary stand for the winter that rests on the bay window sill, giving the trees light but letting them stay away from the coldest area next to the glass. By keeping them together in an area away from a radiator and kept slightly cooler than the rest of the house I can ensure greater humidity and health. |
